OVERVIEW

Under the dedicated leadership of its founder, Dr. R.C. Udokwu, National Grammar School, Nike, began its journey of excellence in 1958. The school flourished as a private institution until 1970, when the government took over the management of schools across the region following the end of the Nigerian Civil War.

Under the new government administration, the school continued to expand its influence and academic reach. By 1975, as part of the educational reforms of the era, the school solidified its reputation as a leading center for learning in Enugu, transitioning to accommodate the growing needs of the community while maintaining its core mission of producing disciplined and talented young men.

In alignment with national educational reforms, the school underwent several administrative transitions to enhance its academic structure. Following the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) directives in 2006, the institution was briefly disarticulated into Junior and Senior divisions to streamline the learning process. By 2011, these units were rearticulated to form a unified secondary school once more.

A landmark moment occurred in September 2012, when the state government officially returned the school to its original mission-based management. This transition ushered in a new era of excellence and holistic development. Today, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), dedicated staff, and motivated students remain deeply committed to the school's upward trajectory. This synergy has resulted in numerous accolades and laurels in academics, sports, and cultural competitions, cementing the school's reputation as a top-tier institution in both historical and contemporary times.
